Q: What is a Static Web page?
A:
Static web pages are fixed by the data in computer files. Every time a web page is requested by a web browser the file requested is returned by the web server exactly as it exists in a computer file on the server.

Q: What is an HTML page?
A:
Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) is the major document format used on the World Wide Web. HTML is a simple markup language that has made hypertext Web pages simple to create and publish. Pages are built with HTML tags, or codes, embedded in the text. HTML defines the page layout, fonts and graphic elements as well as the hypertext links to other documents on the Web. Each link contains the URL, or address, of a web page residing on the same server or any server worldwide, hence "worldwide" web.


Q: What is SHTML?
A:
SHTML (Server parsed HTML) is a format where the web server parses or scans a file looking for specially marked SSI (Server Side Includes) tags and replacing them with with some other data or the contents of another file. SSI is usefull for creating areas of a web page that can be derived from normal non HTML text documents that can be changed and maintained by anyone with a word processor.


Q: What is PDF?
A:
Portable Document Format (PDF) is a document description language that has been implemented on a wide variety of computers. This makes the same PDF documents readable on otherwise totally incompatible operating systems like Macintosh , Windows and UNIX. Even if you don't know what that is, you may know about Adobe Acrobat, the program used to create and read PDF files. This format has become a strong standard for sending documents, manuals and literature over the Internet. PDF files on web sites can be displayed by most web browsers if the Free Acrobat Reader program and browser plug-in is installed on the computer.


Q: What is DOC?
A:
Microsoft Word Documents (DOC) files on web sites can be displayed by most web browsers if Microsoft Word is installed on a Windows computer .


Q: What is GIF?
A:
The GIF (Graphics Interchange File) file format was initially developed by Compuserve as a cross platform graphics format which would allow compressed graphics files to be viewed on DOS, Commodore and Apple systems. As time went on Windows, Macintosh and virtually every other type of computer could also display GIF files making it a de facto standard of the industry.


Q: What is JPEG?
A:
The JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) file format was developed as a non-proprietary high quality compressed graphics format. Web Browsers on Windows, Macintosh and virtually every other type of computer can also display JPEG files making it a de facto standard of the industry.


Q: What is TIFF?
A:
The Tag Interface File Format (TIFF) is a standard for storing bit mapped graphics from scanners and fax machines. Free TIFF file viewers and plug-ins are available for most web browsers and computers. TIFF is commonly used in document management systems to enable viewing of scanned legacy documents. The US Patent and Trademark Office stores millions of old patent and trademark documents in TIFF files so they may be viewed and read by anyone with a web browser and an internet connection.


Q: What is CSS?
A:
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a simple styling language which allows attaching style to HTML elements. Every element type as well as every ocurance of a specific element within that type can be declared an unique style, e.g. margins, positioning, color or size. By including a single Cascading Style Sheet every page on your web site can inherit the styles described therein.

Q: What are Frames should my site use them?
A:
A frame page usually consists of three or more web site pages. A typical framed web site includes a navigation system contained in one frame on the left, a content page contained in a frame on the right and a third page surrounding these two pages to hold the entire site together. When links are clicked in the left frame, the content in the right frame changes while the left frame stays the same. Advantages: 1. Frames will make the site easier to navigate and maintain the site for future updates and adding pages. 2. Frames will allow additional content to be added to the site much easier and at reduced costs. Disadvantages:


Q: What's the difference between an internal link and an external link?
A:
An internal link is what is used to navigate between the different pages of your site "linking" them together. An external link is one that takes the viewer to a different web site altogether.

A:
A Home page is the default first page that will be displayed by a web site.


Q: What is an About Us Page?
A:
The About US page contains information and news about a company and its mission.


Q: What is a Contact Us Page?
A:
The Contact US page contains ways to contact a company. Company Name Company Address Company Phone Number e-mail address directions and maps to the company employee phone numbers and e-mail addresses

The site map page shows all of the web pages on a web site in a logically laid out manner. They are used by strangers to find and easily navigate to specific areas of complicated web sites.
